Stretton village’s historic Anglesey Arms has undergone a £150,000 investment, and was applauded by Burton MP Andrew Griffiths at the opening on Friday 28thApril for its place in the community after creating six new jobs.
Ensuring it’s THE summer socialising destination for fellow Burtonians, customers can expect a third more covers, transformed bar area, revamped beer garden, much expanded range of cask ales and a new ‘King’s Feast’ menu.
Andrew Griffiths said: “I am delighted to see this investment going into the Anglesey Arms. Pubs are at the very heart of our communities and it is fantastic to see this community pub expanding and going from strength to strength. I have no doubt it will continue to be at the heart of the community in Stretton.”
“We are a community pub and as locals have got behind the Anglesey Arms, we’ve had to expand to cater to the high demand,” said General Manager Ian Lowe adding: “And in UK’s reputed brewing capital, it would be rude not to take cask ale seriously!”
Boasting a great relationship with brewers, the pub is planning to be a regional leader in showcasing new beers, rotating them between traditional ales such as Pedigree and Bass, across its four pumps. But in the pub all about community, the summer drinks range is more than beer, branching out with a ‘spirits emporium; ’Tutti Fruity’ and ‘Sour Cherry’ cocktail bowls; the promise of refreshing Lilley’s cider; and a suitably wide soft drinks range.
Culinary delights come from the aptly named ‘Kings Feast’ menu -over 100 combinations of dishes guaranteeing something for everyone, from all day traditional English breakfast, to grills, gourmet burgers, lighter summer salads and vegetarian options including the Panang Curry.
With quirky twists on pub favourites, the six monster dishes are for the less faint hearted such as the Jumbo Pie Platter: Chicken Dinner Pie and Beef & Ale Pie with accompaniments; Sausage & Mash Mountain: nine sausages, with plenty of creamy potato smothered with onion gravy; and Chef’s Choice Plank: Mexican- topped twisters, chicken & chorizo, mini nachos, meatballs and garlic bread.
The historic inn named after the Marquis of Anglesey in the 1800’s, and home to Burton’s oldest bowling green, has been sympathetically decorated whilst building on its popularity by adding more seating, particularly in the revamped beer garden designed for cider and sun worshipers.
“We have focused on preserving the history of the pub whilst bringing the interior up to date. We’re actively encouraging families to get out during the summer months, spending time together which is why we’ve spruced up the beer garden and made plenty of room to enjoy the new menu,” added Ian.
Atmosphere doesn’t stop there with Monday club offering deals on selected drinks, Tuesday cask ale with pints for £2.50, Wednesday kids play afternoon, Thursday Silver saver with discounts for over 65’s, Fizz Friday with a bottle of prosecco from just £10.99, Saturday night live entertainment once a month and of course the traditional roast with all the trimmings to finish on Sunday.
