Manchester community hub, the Turing Tap, reopens today following a £68,000 investment that sees the site transition into a Craft Union venue. The beloved highstreet pub will be reopening under a new operator who will be hosting a fun-filled launch party on Saturday 11th May to welcome the community back to the venue.
The iconic Turing Tap pub is located in the heart of the bustling Manchester city centre and is a favourite amongst students, locals and tourists alike. The pub sports an industrial look and is spread across two floors, with additional outdoor seating available by the entrance of the venue. The investment into the site has provided a light decorative makeover of the space alongside its rebranding.
Sports are a central focus of the Turing Tap’s offering, and the pub reopens with nine large HDTV screens and projector set up with TNT and Sky Sports for guests to catch all major sporting events in the company of fellow fans. The pub will also be hosting an array of giveaways for all England matches in the Euros to get guests firmly in the sporting spirit.
As part of the Craft Union family, the Turing Tap reopens as a wet-led venue and will offer a wide range of entry level and premium beer lines including fan-favourites such as Cruzcampo, Brixton Pale Ale, Fosters, Carlsberg and a revamped draught range will also be introduced at the pub.
Shannon Meehan joins the Turing Tap as the new operator of the pub. Shannon has a long history with pubs, having grown up with parents in the trade. She commented: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining a Manchester venue as infamous as the Turing Tap. I grew up in pubs and from a young age remember cashing up tills, rotating stock and helping out. At 18 I left home to run my own pub and over the following years I learnt the trade inside out, picked up some valuable lessons and gained so much experience. I am excited to be taking on the Turing Tap and I have so many ideas for the pub’s future.”
Shannon added: “I am keen to make Turing Tap a central hub for the community, a place for all to relax, offload, unwind, catch up with friends and create memories. The team and I are dedicated to providing an environment that is fun and friendly and we can’t wait to see you all back at the venue!”
The Turing’s Tap fun-filled launch party kicks off on Saturday 11th May and guests are invited to join the venue for karaoke celebrations from 4pm-8pm before roof-raising local band, Graffiti Tree, take to the stage to entertain guests from 9:30pm till late. The Turing Tap will be hosting a number of giveaways, games and plenty more, it’s not one to miss.
As a key student destination and community hub, the Turing Tap has introduced a fantastic weekly events agenda to keep all customers well entertained during the week. Some highlights include their smartphone quiz every Monday evening, karaoke every Wednesday with a shot for all brave participants as well as their beloved student social night every Thursday which includes spin the wheel, where guests can win a bar tab and other exciting prizes. The fun continues into the weekend with live sports viewing during the day on Saturday and Sunday and live music in the evening on Saturday and a wholesome games evening on Sundays.
The venue was first rebranded to Turing Tap in 2016 in honour of Alan Turing, a key figure in solving the Enigma code that helped the Allies to win World War II. Alan Turing was also a former University of Manchester professor.
