In a city that has become one of the most diverse for its collection of bars, what satisfaction for one very traditional Dundee pub to see such a meteoric rise in popularity that owners are investing back £155,000 and creating three additional jobs.
Nethergate’s Nether Inn has rapidly become a favourite for students and Dundonians, a wee bar where folks gather amid original character, now to be complimented with the comfort and facilities demanded by the modern pub goer.
“In the last year, the Nether Inn has really hit the spot,” said manager Chris Douglas. “Regulars create their own social – we’ve a ridiculously busy juke box, societies, the funniest ‘cards against humanity’ games, and we are definitely keeping that.
“What we’re developing is our offer and we’ll feel a lot fresher whilst preserving unique features. Workers can enjoy traditional lunches, sports fans get the best viewing facilities, and regulars appreciate a wider range of great drinks,” added Chris.
The Lord Provost of Dundee, Bob Duncan was the first to pull one of the new craft beers at the opening with invited guests last night before the doors opened at 8pm and the DJ took to the decks.
Improving its status as the perfect socialising place, pitchers of cocktails, sharer plates, and an open invite for societies with the incentive of free food for larger groups. Two pool tables certainly provide a facility many ‘modern’ bars have denied whilst ultra modern screens and ten plus TVS will be installed to air Sky and BT sports across different zones in the pub.
The place to refuel, there are fourteen choices on the two for £8.49 menu, special sports days will see table served ‘street food’, and a different value offer every day from lunch andamp; a drink for £5.49 and Burger andamp; a drink £6.99.
The three craft beers will include Brewdog and a weekly guest with an extensive range of vodkas, gins and other spirits added to the menu.
Always a reason to visit, there will be sports viewing for most games across boxing, football, rugby and NFL.
