The Oak in Sutton Coldfield will host a family-friendly fundraising event over the August Bank Holiday weekend, in aid of Dementia UK, a charity that provides nurses to support dementia patients and their families.

Saturday 25th August 2018 will be a fun day from 12pm- 4pm with a bouncy castle, fête stalls and face painting in the garden to keep the children entertained. The pub’s chef, Kevin Deards, will also be putting on a BBQ throughout the day.

In the evening DJ Mal, a firm favourite amongst the locals, will be offering live music and karaoke from 8pm. There will also be a late-night raffle, giving entrants the chance to win prizes and pub vouchers, with all proceeds donated to Dementia UK.

The Oak’s new Deputy Manager, Sara Hamblin, is organising and running the fundraiser, a responsibility she has gladly undertaken since her promotion in July this year. Sara has been working at the pub for three years, rising through the ranks from bar staff, to team leader in 2017. She has organised a multitude of charity events in the lead up to her Deputy Manager role, of particular note was the Epilepsy Research UK Fun Day Fundraiser in August 2017, which raised over £700 for the charity that research the causes, treatment and prevention of epilepsy.

Sara said: “I was aware that Stonegate ran a Leadership programme for aspiring members of staff to reach the next level of their careers but I didn’t realise how quickly I would progress through the programme.

“I’m overjoyed that I have reached the position of Deputy Manager so early in my career. I have a number of professional goals to meet in order to continue to develop my career, one of which is to create maximum impact in the charity work I’m involved in and I certainly plan to do that!”
