The Oldest pub in Middlesbrough, popular amongst not only locals but celebs like Tom Jones, is preserving its heritage whilst sprucing up for the summer months with a £190,000 refurbishment.

Introducing cosy ambient décor, a revamped beer garden, improved sports viewing, the introduction of cask ales and endless entertainment, the Linthorpe Road pub is retaining its reputation as ‘best’ in the village.

All was revealed at a VIP event on Saturday 29thApril from 5-7pm with bubbles on arrival, against a backdrop of acoustics from Casual Sax. Locals enjoyed the new look and experienced the best in sports and service as Anthony Joshua takes on Wladimir Klitscho with the pub open until 1am so celebrations could run their course.

“Dating back to 1855 we are still the heartbeat of the village, it is important to us to maintain the traditional historic roots but we have also diversified our offer to capture the more modern pub-goer of today!” said General Manager Paul Potts.

With Sky and BT sports on tap, one big screen and seven small screens showing everything fromhorse-racingto football and boxing, sports fans can rejoice. Pair that with table service during big games and you’ll never miss a score.

Drinks haven’t been left out either with the introduction of cask ales featuring three pumps including a regional hero, national ale and guest ale – each rotating based on customer preference.

“The cask line up will depend on customers’ tastes; we are open to suggestions and are looking forward to exploring local brewers where we can. Creating the perfect day to night atmosphere is what we pride ourselves on and we can’t wait for everyone to see the new look!” added Paul.

Pina Colada, Woo Woo and the Mojito all grace the cocktail list, with 2-4-1 cocktail’s all day Saturday and with brand new barrista made coffee, there’s no tastes left untouched.

Locals can enjoy relaxed summer socialising with a revamped beer garden including new benches, undercover decking and increased covers. The indoor ‘snug’ bar has transformed into a gaming haven with dominoes, darts and poker as well as pool competitions every Tuesday.

Entertainment doesn’t stop there with Monday night football, Wednesday night Quiz, Thursday night poker, Friday and Saturday night party and Sunday Karaoke, the pub oozes atmosphere every night of the week.
