Local community hub, the Lansdowne Inn in Torquay has smashed its fundraising and raised an incredible £8,500 for various local charities with the help of their community and regulars.
To date, the pub has supported numerous charities including, the Turner Ward at the Ricky Grant Unit of the Torbay Hospital, Torbay Bikers for Kids, Foredowne Kennels & Cattery stray dog unit, Rowcroft Hospice, Purple Angel Dementia, Stonegate’s dedicated charity, Motor Neurone Disease Association, plus many more local charities.
Operator Scott Routledge and his partner Emma are the driving force behind the pub’s awesome fundraising efforts and commented: “We’re thrilled to have raised over £8,500 and counting for charities that are so important to us and our regulars. Our customers are so incredible and are always coming up with suggestions & ideas for fundraisers and new charities to support. It has been an honour to bring these ideas and fundraisers to life at the Lansdowne Inn. We are so grateful to everyone who supports our pub, we couldn’t do it without our locals!”
Since the beginning of the year, the pub has hosted numerous events and weekly fundraisers that have culminated in the £8,500 total to date. From charity darts & pool nights to bonus balls, sweepstakes and more, the pub has done it all. Their next fundraiser is a Premier League Pontoon, which will kick of this week when the premier league starts a new season.
All the Premier League teams have been distributed to participants through blind draw envelopes and prizes will be awarded for that team’s performance throughout the league. With fantastic prizes like £200 for the first team to score 21 goals, the initiative has proven to be highly popular since it was announced to the pub’s regulars.
Emma commented: “The Premier League Pontoon was a brilliant idea that a couple of our regulars suggested. The first 20 envelopes sold in just two hours so we created more and are now selling our third set! The buzz is already infectious, and the league hasn’t even started yet. We sold 12 syndicates for the Euros, so this is something very popular at the Lansdowne Inn.
At the beginning of the year, the Lansdowne Inn set themselves a target of £10,000 to raise by the end of 2024 and the team have many more ideas and initiatives in the works to smash their target soon.
The pub’s next key event is their highly popular annual charity “Tommy Routledge” cricket day at Torquay Academy. From 10am on Sunday 25th August, just in time for the August Bank Holiday, attendees can enjoy games, face painting, a beer tent, a BBQ and of course, an awesome game of cricket before heading back to the Lansdowne Inn from 5:30pm for an evening of karaoke. All money raised on the day will be donated to the Turner Ward at the Ricky Grant Unit at Torbay Hospital, a cause that is close to operator Scott Routledge’s heart, who first started the annual event with his mum 17 years ago.
As a Craft Union pub, Lansdowne Inn’s fundraising efforts are part of the group’s wider “Make it a Million” campaign that aims to raise £1 million across all Craft Union sites to triumph the incredible £800,000 they collectively raised last year.
