Slug and Lettuce in Derby has temporarily closed for a huge £230,000 makeover and is set to re-open on Friday 29th March with a spectacular launch party.

The bar on Irongate, one of Derby’s most historic streets, is currently undergoing a top to toe refurbishment which includes a sumptuous new colour palate of plum, aubergine, purple and gold throughout, a striking glass and mirrored back bar area and brand new furniture including secluded curved booth seating, ideal for groups or small parties. A sophisticated audio visual system is being installed allowing for a change of mood from day to night-time through the clever use of lighting. To the rear a quaint courtyard setting will offer alfresco dining. Also new will be a high-tech kitchen management system which monitors timings from the moment the customer’s food is ordered through to its delivery ensuring each and every order reaches the customer perfectly prepared and on time.

General Manager Richard Bardsley, who is creating ten new jobs as a result of the refurbishment, is planning on celebrating the bars’ new look with a long weekend of parties. Doors will swing open for local businesses and regular customers to take a sneaky peak look at the bar at 5pm on Thursday 28th March. The first 100 guests will be treated to complimentary glass of Peroni whilst those who reserve a table in advance will receive a complimentary food platter. Guests will be treated to entertainment from DJ Santero, tricks from magician of the moment Matthew Youngs and bartending tips from a special Slug and Lettuce cocktail masterclass.

The big launch party night follows on Friday 29th March from 7pm when the purple carpet will be rolled out in readiness to welcome customers. Stilt-walkers, fire breathers and paparazzi photographers will be on hand to get everyone in the party spirit whilst the first 100 guests will enjoy a complimentary cava and canapé reception on arrival. The highlight of the evening will be a special giveaway for one lucky customer of a brand new iPad. Customers will receive on arrival a ticket containing a unique safe code. The customer with the code that opens of the safe positioned in the centre of the bar will walk away with the iPad.

Throughout the evening WKD will be offering customers product samples before DJ Darren Cairns takes to the decks.

The party theme continues on Saturday 30th March for a second glamorous late night celebration followed by a family fun day, complete with clown and Slug and Lettuce’s hugely popular ‘Kids Eat for a Quid’ promotion.

“We’re really going to town with the refurbishment”, explains Richard Bardsley. “The exterior will remain discreet in line with the historic nature of the street but inside customers will be wowed by the difference. We couldn’t let such as huge transformation pass without a big celebration so have conjured up not just one, but four days of parties!”

“Excitement is building already for the iPad giveaway and we urge customers to join us early to secure a ticket for the chance to win it,” he added.

“The new bar design is stylish and contemporary but will feel warm and inviting too, a perfect combination for our customers”, commented Richard. “We know our customers want quality, style, faultless customer service and value for money and we believe we have that whole package. With our lovely new look, a brand new menu and a fabulous range of food and drinks offers we’re the ideal place to head for lunchtime food, after work drinks, private hire or late night partying.”
