The Captain Webb, a community pub in Crewe, is celebrating after donating 119 Easter eggs to Hopes and Beams – a charity that helps people with disabilities discover their potential through sports, teaching and recreation.
For the last few months, the pub has been collecting Easter eggs kindly donated by Crewe locals, while also raising funds through a series of regular charity events as part of Craft Union’s Make it a Million campaign – a campaign where Craft Union pubs come together with a goal of raising £1 million for charity over 12 months.
This week, pub Operator Michelle Farrell delivered all 119 Easter eggs to the charity, where staff expressed their heartfelt thanks. The generous donation brought smiles to the faces of many children who benefit from the Crewe charity’s facilities.
This monumental fundraising effort could not have been achieved without the generosity of the Crewe community – many people in the area have personal connections to the Hopes and Beams and were eager to help a great cause.
For Operator Michelle, this cause is particularly close to home. She was inspired to donate as many Easter eggs as possible due to her passion for supporting an incredible charity in Hopes and Beams
Michelle said: “To see the community come together to support such an important cause is a heartwarming and prime example of what makes our community so brilliant.
“The guests here at the Captain Webb are always keen to support the local community and get behind any ideas I have. We do something similar at Christmas with toy and selection box donations.
“My aim is simple – to put a smile on every child’s face who uses Hopes and Beams by giving them an Easter egg. I want to help bring a bit of joy to children who might be going through a tough time.”
Located on 255 Underwood Lane, the popular pub plans to build on its success with continued fundraising events designed to engage the community.
