The Brackens, a community pub in Derby, is celebrating after donating 650 Easter eggs to the Revive Healthy Living Centre – a registered charity providing help and support to residents of Chaddesden, Oakwood and Spondon.
For the last few months, the pub has been collecting Easter eggs kindly donated by Alvaston locals, while also raising funds through a series of regular charity events as part of Craft Union’s Make it a Million campaign – a campaign where Craft Union pubs come together with a goal of raising £1 million for charity over 12 months.
Brackens’ annual Easter egg appeal saw an incredible 450 eggs donated to the charity last year – a heartwarming effort that brought Easter joy to many less fortunate children.
This week, pub Operator Nick Garbett delivered all 650 Easter eggs to the cause, where staff expressed their heartfelt thanks. The generous donation brought smiles to the faces of many people who use the charity’s facilities.
This monumental fundraising effort could not have been achieved without the generosity of the Alvaston community – many people in the area have personal connections to the centre and were eager to help a great cause.
For Operator Nick Garbett, this cause is particularly close to home. He was inspired to donate as many Easter eggs as possible due to his belief in the importance of what the centre does, and the support it provides people in the local area.
Nick said: “To see the community come together to support such an important cause is a heartwarming and prime example of what makes our community so brilliant.
“The guests here at the Brackens are always keen to support the local community and get behind any ideas I have. We do something similar at Christmas with toy and selection box donations and people are always happy to get involved with our initiatives.
“My aim is simple – to put a smile on every child’s face who enters the hospital by giving them an Easter egg. I want to help bring a bit of joy to children who might be going through a tough time.”
Located on Bracken’s Lane in Alvaston, the popular pub plans to build on its success with continued fundraising events designed to engage the community.
