Braes Dog Day takes the Biscuit

Fraser Hay, Deputy Manager of the Braes, on Perth Road, in Dundee, with the help of his team, has raised over £1,500 for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Doggy Fun Day event, which took place on Sunday 22nd July, ran all day and boasted a variety of stalls for dogs and dog-owners, including a vet, a dog groomer and a dog-walking stall. The pub also had a professional photographer on hand, to take photos of dogs and their owners, at a fraction of the normal price – with all proceeds donated to the charity.

There was a raffle running throughout the day, with a range of exciting dog-themed prizes up for grabs, including plenty of toys, a dog bed and some tasty doggy treats, as well as some exciting human treats too! Fraser even brought his own prized pooch, Snoop, the Black Labrador, along to take part in the festivities.

The event comes as part of Fraser’s participation in the ‘Accelerator Programme’. He one of only 28 talented employees to be selected from Stonegate’s 695 sites, to take part in the course, developed as a fast track to managerial positions.

The Accelerator Programme is designed to give employees the tools to bridge the gap between Deputy Manager and General Manager, through education and dynamic group learning. The course aims to build the participant’s confidence, encourage continued independent learning and help them to work together effectively as team.

“Organising the Doggy Fun Day has really been a highlight of my year. It was a huge success and, as any dog owner will know, our dogs are so important to us, so working in a dog-friendly pub AND organising a day totally centred around dogs, has been great fun.

“I can’t believe we managed to raise so much money for the charity too. I really want to thank our amazing customers for their support and all the local businesses who so generously donated raffle prizes – especially Alan’s Pet Shop and Broughty Ferry Pet Supplies.

“I wanted to support the work that Guide Dogs for the Blind do because frankly it’s amazing. So much care and training goes into getting each dog ready to assist a blind or partially sighted person and the end result is totally worth it. The dogs and the people they help are inspirational.”

The Accelerator Programme in now in its 20th graduation cycle and has seen 337 Deputy Managers complete the course, raising over £200,000 for UK Charities between them.
