One of London’s most celebrated LGBTQIA+ venues has reopened its doors following a six-figure refurbishment, bringing a new look to the legendary Two Brewers in Clapham.

The iconic venue, which has been serving the LGBTQIA+ community since 1981, welcomed guests back recently after an extensive transformation designed to honour its rich history while investing in its future.

Guests arriving at Two Brewers will immediately notice its striking new deep red exterior, replacing the venue’s previous black frontage. Inside, the refurbishment has reimagined both of the venue’s main spaces, creating distinct experiences while retaining the character that has made the pub a cornerstone of London’s LGBTQIA+ scene for more than four decades.

The front bar now features rich red and purple tones, creating a warm and vibrant atmosphere from day through to late night. A more open layout, new seating and a rebuilt performance stage with interchangeable backdrops have been introduced to enhance the venue’s renowned cabaret offering.

The venue’s back room has been transformed into a dedicated club space, with the majority of the investment focused on creating an immersive lighting experience designed to elevate club nights and events.

The reopening has already proved a hit with guests, with strong footfall throughout the first week and visitors embracing the refreshed look and feel of the venue.

Oliver Blatherwick, General Manager at Two Brewers, said: “We’re incredibly proud to welcome guests back to the Two Brewers following this investment. Our aim was never to change what makes this venue so special, but to evolve it for the future while celebrating its incredible cabaret heritage and importance to London’s LGBTQIA+ community.

“Guests have loved the new look so far, particularly the transformed club space and lighting, and it’s been wonderful to see familiar faces returning alongside new visitors discovering us for the first time.”

As well as its refreshed surroundings, Two Brewers has introduced a new £5 Happy Hour running Monday to Friday from 5pm until 9pm. The venue is also continuing to strengthen its links with local LGBTQIA+ organisations and community groups, while hosting its popular weekly quiz with Sheila Simmonds.

Oliver added: “This investment demonstrates a commitment to the future of the Two Brewers and its place at the heart of the community. We’re excited to see our performers make the most of the new stage, welcome even more guests through our doors and continue delivering the cabaret, club nights and sense of belonging that people know and love us for.”

Liam Martyn, Area Manager at Stonegate Group, said: “Few venues hold the place in people’s hearts that the Two Brewers does. This investment shows a commitment to the future of the venue and its place within Clapham’s LGBTQIA+ community.

“We had a fantastic reopening week, with a particularly strong Saturday and a really positive response to the new look and feel. We wanted the refurbishment to feel like a natural evolution of the Two Brewers, and it’s been lovely to hear how well that has landed. The team and I can’t wait to see the venue continue to bring together performers, regulars, new visitors and the wider LGBTQIA+ community.”

Funded by Stonegate Group, the investment reflects the company’s continued commitment to investing in its pubs, creating best-in-class experiences for guests while supporting the long-term success of community venues such as the Two Brewers.
