Newport is set to rock later this month as High Street pub favourite Yates’s showcases a new look with a long bank holiday weekend of celebrations. The pub is set to temporarily close on Monday 13th August for a £190,000 makeover and will re-open with a long weekend of celebrations on Thursday 23 August.

Ronan McCann, General Manager of the Yates’s and his team will be rolling out the red carpet and hosting a celebratory champagne reception from 6-8pm on Thursday 23 August for invited guests, followed by a glamorous re-launch party for all from 8pm with entertainment from stilt walkers, fire-eaters and magicians.

Legendary club DJ Michael Andre (brother of Peter) will kick off the party on Friday 24th August with a set that promises to get the dancefloor spinning. Celebrations will continue throughout the opening weekend when Eastenders heartthrob, Scott Maslen (Jack Branning) from the BBC1 soap joins Yates’s customers on Saturday 25th August.

The pub will be transformed beyond all recognition into Yates’s sleek new bar design and using the latest state-of-the-art audio visual technology. A new raised area, brand new seating, back bar design and VIP areas will be installed creating a one-stop shop for all those who love great food, drink and partying in Newport.

“We have an incredible opening weekend lined up with our re-launch on Thursday and Michael as our guest star on Friday evening”, said Ronan, “followed by Yates’s favourite Scott Maslen on Saturday night. We’re told Scott loves to party and we’re hoping he’ll be hitting the dancefloor with customers as well taking time to serve them from behind the bar. Bank holiday Sunday sees the return our Wet’n’Wild night with surf machine for guests to try and for the fourth year in a row our show-stopping wet t-shirt competition.”

“Customers are going to see a phenomenal change to the pub”, he continued. “Totally new décor, a fresh new back bar design and several new VIP booths are being installed, perfect for private hire. We’ve plenty of plans in place for new party nights at the pub as well as projects to support the community too.
