The Windmill in Breadshall is in awe of generous locals after they smashed their fundraising target before their charity event in aid of Children’s Brain Tumour even took place.
Locals bought £1 raffle tickets for a draw made at the event on Saturday 6thMay by the dozen, meaning that the event started with a whopping £2,200 in funds, and finished after one of the most successful single charity events the pub has held, at £4,658.
By the time the 80’s themed charity event took place, complete with auction, raffle and 80’s disco, the restaurant was fully booked out, and there wasn’t a single space left to stand in.
“The generosity of our locals never ceases to amaze me”, said General Manager Rebecca Monk. “Our original target was £2000 so to achieve £2,200 even before the Auction, put us on such a high for the event.
“This charity means a lot to many of our customers so it’s great for everyone to come together as a community and back the cause.”
The Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre is a local charity aiming to develop further knowledge on brain tumours in children with the hope of one day developing a cure. It remains the most fatal cancer for children in the UK.
“Having raised £2000 for the cause last year we were over the moon to host the event again and see if we could out do our total.
“We are blown away with the donations from local businesses giving everything from a full MOT and service worth £200, framed signed England shirt, Fitbit flex, four tickets to climb the 02 arena, and tickets to Derby County!” added Rebecca.
The Windmill have raised almost £10,000 for various charities in the past six months showing their community spirit and local generosity knows no bounds.
