The Beehive, on Southernhay in Basildon, has reopened its beer garden last week, following a five-figure investment, under the experienced reigns of General Manager, Colin Goodwin.

A proper pub, right by the Basildon train station, The Beehive’s garden has been transformed into an oasis for customers to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.

The renovation of the garden includes a huge expansion of the space in preparation for what the nation hopes to be a long English summer, with new seating spaced socially distantly to ensure customer can enjoy themselves at the pub while remaining safe and secure. The pub has introduced a special ‘Outdoor Menu’ filled with small plates and pub classics and plenty of meal deals to take advantage of over the coming months, as well as its plentiful drinks menu.

Colin oversees an experienced and brilliant team, the majority of who have returned to the pub following lockdown, raring to go and getting back to the jobs they love.

Colin said: “I am so excited by this transformation and am delighted to finally welcome customers into our brand-new garden this week. The Beehive is a fantastic pub in a great location and this refurbishment has injected a new lease of life into this venue.”

“Our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our team and customers, whilst ensuring everyone is able to enjoy and make the most out of their long-awaited visit to our pub. We understand that while restrictions are lifting it is still important for our customers to feel safe and enjoy an environment where that is taken seriously, so we have taken every precaution in making our beer garden the place to be this spring and summer.”

The pub has ensured it complies with the new COVID-19 Secure Workplace Guidance for Pubs and Restaurants, introducing measures to protect staff and customers and ensuring the smooth running of operations.

Understanding the importance of clarity for customers, The Beehive has installed external signage clearly setting out the safety measures in place. Customers will be greeted with a warm welcome from both managers and teams, and robust COVID-secure measures, including clear social distancing measures, enhanced cleaning regimes and adhering to NHS Test and Trace guidelines; full table service with contactless payments available, customers can also order food and drinks via an app, will be in operation.

Tables can be booked on Beehive’s website ( or by calling the Stonegate central booking team on 03300 949251.
