The Poacher, Portishead’s oldest pub and one of the town’s most historic buildings, re-opened on Monday 18th August following a six-figure investment that has created three new jobs in the community.

Dating back to the 1600s, The Poacher was originally two cottages and has served as everything from a courtroom to a parish council office. Today, it’s a much-loved high street pub.

The refurbishment has brought a complete redecoration, striking new signage, and a refreshed look throughout. A new darts and pool area has been created, and the large garden – complete with stage and outside bar – has undergone major improvements, ready to host live music and community events. A versatile function room is also available to hire, ideal for everything from birthdays and family get-togethers to community events.

New operators Danielle and Ed are relocating from Telford, where they successfully ran a pub with eight letting rooms. Known for their charity fundraising and community events, they are excited to bring their passion to Portishead.

Danielle said: “The Poacher is such a beautiful and historic pub, and we can’t wait to welcome both familiar faces and new customers through the doors. We’ve worked hard to create a space that celebrates the pub’s heritage while making it a fantastic place for the community to come together – whether that’s for live sport, music, family events, or just a quiet pint in the garden.”

The pub’s weekly line-up offers something for everyone, including Monday darts, Tuesday killer pool, Wednesday killer darts, Friday disco karaoke, Saturday live music, and a Sunday meat raffle. Sports fans can enjoy Sky Sports and TNT Sports across multiple HD screens, while well-behaved dogs are welcome throughout.

The reopening celebrations kick off over the bank holiday weekend, with karaoke on Friday 22nd August, followed by two days of all-day events on the 23rd and 24th August featuring live music from 12pm, food vans, line dancing, games, and a disco.

With its combination of history, fresh new look, and lively entertainment schedule, The Poacher is ready to reclaim its place as the beating heart of the Portishead community.
