The Greyhound in Diss is welcoming customers in again, just as it has for hundreds of years following a short closure for a refurbishment.

The 17th century pub has had a facelift throughout to refresh the popular pub and make it all-the-more comfortable and enjoyable for its customers inside and out in the beer garden. TV sports, darts, pool and live entertainment are all newly-added attractions.

Records show that The Greyhound was an inn dating back to the 15th century, possibly known as the Pilgrim’s Inn, and it is thought the current building dates from the 17th century.

Having played such a key part throughout the history of the ancient town, it is now fit to serve the Diss community for many more years to come.

The pub is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards. It invested over £145,000 into The Greyhound during its recent refurbishment of the friendly neighbourhood local.

There is a new face at the helm, Ruidi Cooke, who is the Operator at the St Nicholas Street pub and he and his team are happy to see customers enjoying The Greyhound’s hospitality again. After studying bricklaying, Ruidi changed career and moved into the hospitality industry and he hasn’t looked back since.

Ruidi said: “This is such an historic pub and it has served Diss for hundreds of years. I am excited to be part of its next chapter. This latest refurb means it is even more inviting and people want to stay for longer. The new décor and seating are all about making your visit to The Greyhound comfy and relaxing. You can come in to watch a match or just have a drink and a chat, that’s the beauty of this pub – it is here for everyone. It is beer garden season and we have really made the most of our outside space with new benches so there is plenty of seating to make the most of the summer.”

Inside, clever use of big screens and audio means this classic two-room pub can have entertainment, sports or multiple activities taking place simultaneously.

The drinks menu has been extended so customers can enjoy a pint of ale, chilled lager, cool cocktail or explore different wines and spirits.

Ruidi added: “We have something for everyone, whatever the day, night or occasion to enjoy with friends, family and neighbours. There is a great atmosphere here, we have a brilliant range of drinks, great service, sports and entertainment and it’s all really good value. Come in and see us!”
