Dennis McDaid, much-loved Licensee of The Park Tavern in Islington, is celebrating 50 years of service to the pub in January 2024, with a celebratory party to mark the momentous occasion!

Dennis has spent the last 50 years working his way up through various front of house roles. He began his journey as a member of bar staff and has progressed all the way up to Licensee, and holds many fond memories of his incredible time at the pub. From hosting birthday and Christening parties to making lifelong friends with the locals, Dennis has seen and done it all over the last 50 years at The Park Tavern, with his loving wife Christine Tague by his side almost every step of the way.

To celebrate this commemorative milestone, the team at The Park Tavern are hosting a fun-packed party for Dennis on the 13th of January with friends, family and locals. Guests will be able to enjoy live music, food, and lots of reminiscing with ex-staff members who will also be joining in with the celebrations.

Dennis noted the main thing which has kept him at the pub for so long is simply all the amazing people he has met along the way, who have now become good friends of his. From his beginnings as bar staff, all the way up to being Licensee, Dennis has shared many laughs with regulars and has made some invaluable memories. Alongside this, the incredible atmosphere and old school charm of the pub has also kept Dennis devoted to the venue for 50 years.

“This pub is like a family to me” says Dennis, “The support from the local community over the last 50 years has been nothing short of amazing. The Park Tavern has been such a big part of my life and I never expected to stay this long, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My wife and I have spent many of our years here getting to know the locals and creating a traditional pub where customers can come in, get a quality pint, have a chat and feel home from home. We hope this continues for many years to come.”

In his 50 years at the site, Dennis has also seen the pub become a revered sports venue – particularly with Arsenal fans – where customers flock to catch all the latest sporting action and can try their hand at a game of darts. For those not interested in sports, the Park Tavern also hosts local musicians fortnightly meaning there’s something for everyone, and always something engaging for guests to partake in.

CEO of Stonegate Group David McDowall said: “Congratulations to Dennis for 50 amazing years at The Park Tavern. It is clear that Dennis has worked incredibly hard and the pub has become a treasure to the local community and loved by many off the back of his efforts. I wish Dennis, his wife and the pub every success in the future.”
