Soham community hub, The Fountain, is set to re-open its doors this 13th December, with a brand-new look and feel, just in time for Christmas celebrations! The local favourite has received a full re-vamp throughout, after a 6-figure investment from the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company.
The neighbourhood venue has had an uplifting refresh throughout, with brand-new interior décor, a multi-purpose function room, and an installation of a high-spec dart board for anyone who fancies some light-hearted competition! The refreshed décor now gives the pub a more welcoming feel, with new lighting and colour scheme, to create a cosy and homely feel to the new-look space.
The pub is steeped in history, with the grade II listed building dating all the way back to the 15th Century. The steelyard in Fountain Lane, the street where the pub gets its name from, was used for weighing carts and wagon-loads of hay and straw until 1879, when the railway went on to open a ‘weighbridge’ in Newmarket, not far from the pubs location. The Fountain now stands as one of two of these historical buildings in the whole of the country!

Phil and Sylvia are a great team, and have spent many happy years running incredible community pubs. From neighbourhood locals to lively town centre pubs, the duo certainly aren’t short of amazing experience in the hospitality sector. When visiting the pub in Soham, they instantly fell in love, and are eager to bring in new plans, including new entertainment and charity initiatives.
Fountain will be supporting local charity, ‘East Anglia Children’s Hospice’, via a jar on the bar, and by hosting various raffles. The pub will donate all funds raised to the local Hospice, an important service in the area, which helps to support children and their families every step of the way in their care.
The pub also has a new entertainment schedule, with bingo, and quizzes throughout the week, notably, their upcoming Friday and Saturday night live entertainment, which will showcase a range of musicians, and live performers, which local guests can enjoy with friends and family with refreshing drink in hand. On top of this, the pub now has Sky and TNT Sports installed, so you can catch all the latest sporting action at the new-look pub!
