The Danson Stables in Danson Park, Bexleyheath, has been shortlisted in the Best Pub for Dogs category of The Great British Pub Awards 2021.

#DansonDoggies is ‘THE’ place to take your canine friend. Hidden in the middle of Danson Park, a favourite location amongst dog walkers, the pub often find dogs, off their leads, turn up to our doors by themselves, before their owners do!

Doug, an English Bulldog,  barked: “The Danson Stables is by far the best pub around. Our humans love it too. Whenever, we go for walkies around Danson Park, I always make a be-line for the pub, especially when I’m off the lead. The team give the best tummy rubs and head scratches around, I always feel so welcomed when I get there before my human. The team have my favourite doggy bowl full of water ready and waiting for me and the treats are so delicious. It’s wag-tastic!”

Two years ago, Stonegate invested a six-figure sum into the site and the refurbishment had their canine friends at the centre of the design. Since reopening from lockdown, The Danson Stables has adapted its operation to ensure they are COVID-secure, yet not compromising on their customer experience. They have moved their outside dog bar, The Dog House, featuring a canine refreshment area alongside dog treats, and developed a dog menu which now includes a woof-liscious Sunday Lunch for £1.99 consisting of a choice of meats and mixed vegetables.

The Great British Pub Awards recognise, reward and celebrate the fantastic work pubs do for our country and their communities. With over entries spanning across ten categories, the shortlisted pubs will now go through a second round of judging to be crowned the overall winner.

Darrell Appleby, general manager and top-dog of the Danson Stables, said: “The dog-community is incredibly important not just to our business, but to us personally. We are the first pub to be part of Great Dog Walks Together – we have named our initiative ‘Pooch and Munch”. During lockdown, we kept this initiative going with some of the team walking the dogs of our locals who were shielding or self-isolating. In August, we will be hosting the ‘World’s Biggest Doggy Sunday Lunch’ – a charity fundraiser for British Heart Foundation, £5 per dog to enjoy a Sunday Lunch.

“I am delighted that we have been shortlisted in this year’s Great British Pub Awards – this is a fantastic achievement in itself.  It has been a challenging year for everyone and I would like to thank all our customers and their dogs for their continued support.”
